Mother’s Storytelling

by Zhyar Mehr

I am Mehr, I am from Afghanistan, I was graduated from the literature faculty of Baghlan University and am currently living in Kabul. I am a new believer with a Muslim background. I am studying MDiV at GMU online.

Jesus chose me from amongst millions when I was very young in a very sensitive time. Turbulence and terrorism were at the peak by the time when my heart got touch by the Lord. When I started loving Jesus, at that time even I did not know that approximately more than one billion people in the world follow Jesus and there is a way of connecting with God which is called Christianity. My first introduction with Jesus made by my mother’s storytelling during long and dark nights of winter.

My mother was telling stories of kings, prophets, and Messiah. She according to her Islamic faith was telling that Jesus was one of God’s prophets who raised the people from the dead. This was a turning point in my faith in Jesus Christ. I started to seek information about Jesus. With the passage of time, I was getting closer to my goal to solve my question “raising someone from the dead” is just the work of God, not humankind. When I visited the Pakistani Christian community that we were living as a refugee and the Korean pastor in my birthplace I figured out that my claim about Jesus Christ as God was right. Lord opened my eyes and dragged me out of the Islamic quagmire. The miracles of Christ brought me closer to Jesus. I got baptized in Ankara. Since I have been accepting Jesus as my Lord and Savior; Muslims and my family persecuted me. Life in Jesus and with Jesus is a joy and eternal.

Amen
